on the way to work today i was struck by something: nobody buys white cars anymore. i mean, i’m surrounded by giant steel pillbugs, roly-polying along, but not anyone with the balls (or ovaries) that tom wolfe has. that’s his car on the right.

its’ a black-and-white photo, but you’re not missing much (also, i couldn’t find a better pic online). but seriously, it might be time to bring back the great white sharks of yesteryear.

on the other hand, maybe tom wolfe is just old-fashioned.

so blackwater usa has been getting a pretty bad rap…for a long time, actually. recently, blackwater “security guards” in baghdad opened fire on an unarmed civilian car. reports vary, but they all conclude that the blackwater guards fired without provocation, and some reports claim that in addition to firing automatic rifles, they fired grenade launchers and called in helicopter support fire. blackwater has defended the incident as “a proportional response,” claiming they were under attack from roadside bombs and small-arms fire and their guards had “returned fire at threatening targets.” this was, in fact, a couple and their infant baby–but they were driving on the wrong side of the road.

i mean, this isn’t surprising, is it? i mean, even disregarding their company history of excessive force, lying to dead employees’ families and allegedly smuggling weapons to kurdish nationalists–even ignoring that, their name is BLACKWATER! name a company after sewage containing fecal matter and then see what happens. it’d be like naming bluescrn…uh, pooscrn? that one fell apart on me, sorry. anyway, it’s like that [staples? office max?] commercial where the legal company changes their name to “D.I.N.G.B.A.T.S.” but with murder and mayhem instead of thirty seconds’ worth of dumb-exec humor.

–funny. she is not sexy (and yes, i saw those pictures in gq too). but people seem to really like her show. did i miss something? is she legitimately funny when she’s not just cackling nasally on stage? that ad for the sarah silverman program which is basically just her going “aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!” across about twelve cuts does NOT do it for me. am i just old and cranky at twenty-two? please, people–somebody enlighten me. maybe i just need to get some sleep.

um. apparently when we uploaded the site’s images, we used an old image of the conflict diamond co. shirt that had a placeholder image in place of the barbed wire. our bad; we’re updating it asap–i’ll let you know when the new image is up.

so i’m watching a law & order rerun and see a little teaser ad for some show called ‘the company.’ and they jacked our logo! the order is reversed (‘company’ forms the negative space), but they straight up stole our logo. good thing the show’s going to tank because it’s a tnt original.

well, it turns out that our website looks like absolute dog shit on internet explorer. it looks like a crossword by a dyslexic six-year-old. so, uh, apologies to the 30% of you ie-hards who’ve been to the site so far. if it makes you feel better, it looks really good on firefox and safari.

unrelatedly, i still haven’t seen live free or die hard yet, but that still needs to happen.
